Aerie's unretouched campaign
I also thought about this in class today when we discussed the photoshopping. I read about this a while back when they first did it and loved it. It made me want to shop there more instead of other stores because I felt like I could be more comfortable in that store than others. Also I felt like I could actually wear those clothes and feel good about myself.
I wish more stores would do this kind of work.

Real Beauty Sketches
I thought about this video in class today when we talked about self image. when I watched it the first time I cried so be warned.
These women are asked to describe to a sketch artist their looks and how they see themselves. and then they have a stranger describe them and they hang the pictures up side by side so they see how others see themselves.
I am curious to know if men responses and outcomes would be similar to this.

Gender neutrality in schools
Check this out! Sweden has introduced a gender neutral pronoun and it has really began to catch on! How cool is it that countries around the world see the importance of providing an alternative option to exclusively masculine/feminine options.
http://www.bustle.com/articles/43304-swedens-new-gender-neutral-pronoun-is-a-step-towards-equality-and-its-catching-on-quickly
Here's a similar situation a bit closer to home. A school in Nebraska has asked faculty to quit referring to children by gender-limited terminology, such as having the girls line up first, then boys. They suggest having teachers say things like "if you had to choose between a bike or skateboard, which one do you like more? Bikes line up first, then skateboards second" and so on. They even suggested having the class come up with a class name, similar to a sports team, such as "Purple Penguins." I'm sure everyone has seen the articles or news stories with people freaking out and thinking the school suggested to call children only Purple Penguins instead of boys & girls. That's why I wanted to include this snopes link, as it clarifies the misconstrued school policy more accurately than most articles I've found thus far.
