Gender neutrality in schools

Check this out! Sweden has introduced a gender neutral pronoun and it has really began to catch on! How cool is it that countries around the world see the importance of providing an alternative option to exclusively masculine/feminine options.

Here's a similar situation a bit closer to home. A school in Nebraska has asked faculty to quit referring to children by gender-limited terminology, such as having the girls line up first, then boys. They suggest having teachers say things like "if you had to choose between a bike or skateboard, which one do you like more? Bikes line up first, then skateboards second" and so on. They even suggested having the class come up with a class name, similar to a sports team, such as "Purple Penguins." I'm sure everyone has seen the articles or news stories with people freaking out and thinking the school suggested to call children only Purple Penguins instead of boys & girls. That's why I wanted to include this snopes link, as it clarifies the misconstrued school policy more accurately than most articles I've found thus far.
